Free School Latest

We're really excited to announce that the Department for Education has told us that our application to develop a new co-educational secondary Free School for Waterloo is strong enough to progress to the next stage. This will take the form of an interview in the middle of next month after which we expect to hear whether we can proceed further, later in the summer. So, thank you to all those who have helped us get this far, to everyone who diligently collected signatures on school gates and the wider community and to everyone for your prayers. Please continue to pray as we move into the next stages.

The Charity Tax

George Osbourne's most recent budget has cause quite a stir in the charity sector; limiting the amount of tax-effective giving higher rate tax payers can make. The move would have a considerable impact on our church, Oasis and the entire third sector. We're hosting an event on Thursday, The Charity Tax: Big Society or a Bad Move, to discuss the proposed changes and would love for you to be there. You can find out more about it here.

FoodBank collection at Tesco

On Saturday we had our trial FoodBank collection at Tesco on Kennington Lane. It was a massive success, a huge thank you goes out to everyone who helped collect ½ of a ton of food to be distributed to some of the most desperate families in our community.

Waterloo FoodBank

We're joining a national scheme to recycle clothes and household textiles to create an income stream for our FoodBank. Collection bins will soon be available for unwanted clothes: adult's, children's, belts, bags, paired shoes, blankets, sheets, towels and curtains. These will be collected and we will receive a financial contribution for every five full bags collected. All contributions need to be clean and of wearable/useable quality. So, as you spring clean think about what you can contribute to the new scheme.

Sainsbury's and Tesco voucher collection

We're collecting Tesco and Sainsbury's vouchers for Oasis Academy, Johanna Primary. Last year the scheme enabled us to buy some new PE and games equipment for the playground. It would be great to make even a bigger impact this year. If you have vouchers that you can donate, there is a collecting box available through the week in the Hub Coffee House, as well as each Sunday.

Nativity from Scratch

I remember it well. I had rehearsed all my lines ‘Do you have any rooms free?’, ‘My wife is heavily pregnant, have you anywhere we could stay?’. I was donning a tea towel and my mum had rendered the most convincing beard ever seen on the face of a nine-year old. I perhaps wasn’t ready for the ensuing fame but like all great actors I knew I’d eventually find my way; the role was mine for the taking.

Johanna's Got Talent

88 students auditioned, 12 acts made it through to the live final and all of them were fantastic, without even a hint of butterflies. Dan ‘Dermot’ Dowman proved a natural host bringing a ton of energy and enthusiasm that was returned with interest by the audience. Read more about the grand final of Johanna's Got Talent here...
